Introduction

 Course Revised       Closed Captioned

This online course provides training on the requirements of the accessibility standards referred to under the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation, and on the Ontario Human Rights Code as it pertains to people with disabilities. The five standards include the Customer Service Standards, Employment Standards, Information & Communications Standards, Transportation Standards, and Design of Public Spaces Standards.

AODA stands for Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.  It’s a law that promotes accessibility for people with disabilities in Ontario.  This Act was created on recognition of the history of discrimination against people with disabilities. The purpose of this law is to benefit all Ontarians by creating and enforcing accessibility standards with the goal to remove & prevent barriers and achieve a fully accessible province by January 1, 2025.  Ontario was the first province in Canada to legislate accessibility for people with disabilities.

The Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation is a regulation under the AODA that sets out the requirements for each of the accessibility standards. These standards are rules that businesses and organizations must follow in order to identify, remove & prevent barriers to accessing goods services and facilities by people with disabilities.

The Ontario Human Rights Code is a law that gives all Ontarians equal rights and opportunities as they pertain to employment, housing and services. The AODA and the Human Rights Code work together to promote equality and accessibility.

All employees, volunteers, people who develop policies, and people who provide goods, services or facilities on behalf of the organization must be trained as needed to perform the duties of their jobs. This training must be provided as soon as possible and on an ongoing basis such as when accessibility policies change.

Accessibility Standards, the AODA, and the Human Rights Code is an interactive online training course that shows what organizations must do to meet the requirements of the standards. It provides training on how to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities and those who use an assistive device or service animal or support person.

This online training course may be taken in the comfort of your own home or on the workplace computer system. Depending on your pace, it takes 45 to 60 minutes to complete. You may progress through the online course at your own pace and may stop & start at any time. You are required to achieve a grade of 80% or higher in order to pass, and are allowed 2 attempts to pass the test.  A certificate of completion (and/or wallet card) may be printed at successful completion of the Accessibility Standards, the AODA, and the Human Rights Code Test.
